Desage Chocolatier

Friday, March 13, 2009

For those of you who don't know much about me, let me make something very clear: I LOVE CHOCOLATE. There, now it's all out in the open.

Last night, I was shopping at my favorite dive store, Filene's Basement, when I noticed that they had chocolate on sale. Surprisingly, they carry a lot of premium chocolate. I spotted a red velvet box with a gold bow tied around it. Admittedly, I thought it looked tacky, but I was curious to see what was inside. It was chocolate by Desage Chocolatier. The box was originally priced at $80, and through a double discount (50% off the already dirt cheap price), the total was around $18. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to try an $80 box of chocolate for so little. So, I got it! I'd like to share the experience with you step by step!

1.) Start with a seemingly innocent (and somewhat cheap-looking) red velvet box.

2.) Open the box, to find a fancy Desage label pressed on the inside flap.

3.) Discover rows of gold bars!

4.) Take out a gold bar, open it up and find a piece of "100g Fine Gold" chocolate with a Credit Suisse stamp. Classy.

The chocolates are technically called Milk Chocolate with Hazelnut Desage Ingots. I shared half the box last night. Must admit it was pretty delightful to hand out gold bars to all my buddies, especially in this joke of an economy! In lieu of real gold bars or loose diamonds this will have to do!
